Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Nepal Medical Council (NMC) has suspended the license of 36 non-resident doctors. The Council had decided to scrap the license of 36 non-resident doctors in two phases.
However, after strong opposition to this, the full meeting of the Council held on May 29 decided to keep their names in the register for the time being. Earlier, the Non-Resident Nepalese Association (NRNA) had demanded the government to withdraw its decision to scrap the license. According to NRNA sources, the council has hesitated to go for legal remedy if the decision is not withdrawn. Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) General Secretary Chiranjivi Khadka welcomed the Council’s decision. He has stressed that all the rights of Non-Resident Nepalese should be equal to that of Nepali citizens.
Earlier, the Council had scrapped the registration of 19 doctors from the council registration book as per the Nepal Medical Council Act 2020, Regulations 2024 and Nepal Citizenship Act 2063 BS.
Council officiating registrar Dr Dipendra Pandey said the Council would now call for registration of doctors from around the world.
