Kathmandu. A farmer has been seriously injured after falling while trying to chase away monkeys in Ramechhap. A local Thet Bahadur Khatri was seriously injured after he was trying to chase away a monkey that had come to his farm at Sanibesi of Manthali Municipality-8 in Ramechhap district on Monday morning.
According to locals, Khatri was taken to Manthali Hospital for initial treatment.
He has been referred to Dhulikhel Hospital in Kavre for further treatment.
In recent years, due to the increasing infestation of monkeys, the locals have started keeping the fields barren. A ‘monkey control committee’ was formed at the initiation of the locals at Manthali-8, Chisapani for controlling monkeys. The committee has also decided to provide cash prize of one thousand rupees each to the monkey catchers as an encouragement.
Many farmers have been displaced from farming after monkeys started destroying crops like maize, millet and potato. Monkey control has emerged as a major challenge for rural areas of Ramechhap district as the concern of protecting crops is increasing even during the cropping season.
