Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Chairperson of the Labour and Culture Party, Harka Raj Rai, has demanded removal of Prime Minister Balendra Shah from the record of the parliament over his remark that Nepal has encroached upon India’s territory.
Speaking at the meeting of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, Rai stressed the need for the Prime Minister to correct his statement to protect national integrity and drew the government’s serious attention to the issue of inundation along the border, the problems of the landless and the ongoing Maitighar agitation. Rai said that he has received reports that Nepali territory has been inundated due to the construction of high level dams on Lal Bakaiya and Bagmati rivers by India near Gaur of Rautahat.
Drawing the attention of the Ministry of Land Management, he informed that the people living in Rajbiraj of Saptari for the past 85 years have been agitating for the past one month demanding ownership certificates. He argued that it was not fair to not get the certificate even though the locals living around 70 bigha of land have been paying tax to the municipality.
He also raised the issue of 64 bighas of land at Ramdhuni-7 in Sunsari constituency-1. He expressed his dissatisfaction over the fact that the locals who have been living here for the past 66 years have not yet received the land ownership certificates and are now harassing them by creating fake land owners.
Lawmaker Rai urged the Home Minister to address the issues of the citizens who have been staging sit-in at Maitighar Mandala for a long time. He demanded that the government pay attention to the demands of the agitators and provide justice immediately. In his concluding remarks, Rai expressed the belief that the Prime Minister would correct his statement in the parliament and the government would take concrete steps on these issues of public concern.
