. Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) lawmaker Gyanendra Bahadur Shahi has said there is no rule, power or position that is bigger than the life of citizens.
Speaking at a meeting of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, he questioned the working style of the government, saying that the law should be applied equally to all. Lawmaker Shahi accused those who used to say that a person’s life is bigger than Singha Durbar in the past are now saying that rules are more important than human life.
He said it was a crime to create a situation where the life of a citizen would end.
He said, “People are not killed only by shooting.
“Robbing a citizen of his means of survival, cutting off his livelihood, forcing him to commit suicide is a crime akin to shooting,” he said.
He clarified that they were not demanding that parking should be allowed on the road haphazardly and urged the government to stop the misleading publicity.
He questioned why action would be taken against the general public for violating the traffic rules but not against the high-ranking people driving without seat belts.
Lawmaker Shahi questioned the procedure adopted while taking Ganesh Nepali to the hospital.
He objected that the patients with serious burns should have been taken to the treatment centre in ambulance but were taken like criminals.
He said that the state should answer whether proper treatment was provided on time and whether it was in a condition to be taken to India for treatment. He also demanded an investigation into the activities at the airport in the wake of the death.
