Around 2,700 people died in England and Wales due to extreme heat: Study

Agency. At least 2,700 people have died in England and Wales as two heatwaves hit in May and June, according to a British study.

The study was conducted by Imperial College London, the Met Office and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Researchers estimate the deaths occurred during two extreme heat waves in England and Wales and from heat-related infections. Claire Barnes, a research fellow in climate and climate change at Imperial College London, said there was a clear warning that the UK is now facing a truly dangerous level of heat. Research has shown that climate change caused by human activities has significantly intensified such heat waves, increasing the risk of death.”The current temperature is not just a concern for the elderly or people with chronic diseases,” Barnes warned.

It is now a real threat to the health of ordinary people. (CCTVplus)
