. KATHMANDU: The Koshi Province government has made it mandatory for the employees of the province government to wear dress made of local clothes with the objective of marketing local products and promoting domestic industries.
According to the provision implemented from the fiscal year
2082/83, the office uniform prepared from local fabrics like Dhaka, Khadi (Khandi), Allo produced in the province should be compulsorily used on Wednesday and Friday. The Chief Minister’s Office has implemented the decision in this regard.
According to the decision, the employees of the Ministry of Social Development have started using dresses made from local production from Wednesday. In order to encourage the use of local products, the government has also arranged a special dress facility by adding Rs 5,500 per person annually to the uniform allowance being provided to the employees. Chief Minister Hikmat Kumar Karki said that the provincial government has adopted a policy to provide the required budget on the basis of cost sharing if the local levels also want to implement the campaign from the coming fiscal year 2083/84. According to him, this campaign will support the production, use and marketing of indigenous clothes like Dhaka, Khadi and Allo produced in Koshi Province.
It is expected to directly benefit the local industries, entrepreneurs and producers.
At present, there are about 3,
096 employees working under the Koshi Province government and the sanctioned posts are more than 4,000. The state government has set a target to make the state’s economy more dynamic by promoting domestic industries by increasing the use of local products through the employees.
