. Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) has unveiled its policy and program priorities for the fiscal year 2083÷84.

According to the press release issued by the Board, the main priority is to protect investors, modernize the market and reduce the transaction cost in the coming year.

The Board will increase effective regulatory oversight to control financial frauds that may occur through unauthorized investment advice, activities of ‘fin-influencers’ and misleading publicity, especially through social networks. The Board aims to protect the interests of investors by further strengthening inter-agency coordination in the initial investigation of securities offences.

In order to make the market more systematic, the board has said that it will carry out an in-depth study of the financial and managerial aspects of the companies prior to the IPO and will coordinate with Nepal Rastra Bank and Nepal Stock Exchange to fully operate the margin transaction. The board has also pledged to review the fees in the primary and secondary markets to reduce transaction costs, which is a major concern for investors.

In addition to this, a plan has been put forward to develop a new ‘benchmark index’ on the basis of tradable shares to make the NEPSE index more scientific.

The Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) has taken a policy to maintain a balance between demand and supply in the market by reviewing the lock-in period and allocation provisions of mutual funds.

In addition, the collection of capital by institutions organized using social networks will be brought under the purview of regulation.

In order to make the capital market credible, transparent and in line with international standards, the board has also prepared a ‘Capital Market Development Roadmap’ for the next decade.

“These corrective measures will significantly contribute to the economic transformation of the country by mobilizing the national savings in the productive sector,” said a statement issued by the country’s spokesperson Niranjay Ghimire.
