Surkhet. A no-confidence motion has been registered against Karnali Province Chief Minister Yamlal Kandel at the Karnali Province Assembly Secretariat.
Some lawmakers of the Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) and Nepali Congress have registered a no-confidence motion against the Chief Minister. A total of 16 lawmakers including 11 from the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) and five from the Nepali Congress have signed the no-confidence motion.
The Kandel government has been reduced to a minority in the Karnali Province Assembly after a no-confidence motion was registered against the Chief Minister.
Nepali Congress lawmakers have registered a no-confidence motion against Nepali Congress (NC) Parliamentary Party leader Jeevan Bahadur Shahi for the post of Chief Minister.
“We have submitted a no-confidence motion in writing in accordance with Article 188 (4) of the Constitution of Nepal and Sub-rule (2) of Rule 152 of the Karnali Provincial Assembly Regulations, 2081,” reads the no-confidence motion.
Yamlal Kandel of the CPN-UML is leading the government in Karnali Province with the support of the Nepali Congress. The game of a new alliance had started in Karnali after the Nepali Congress ministers resigned en masse on Wednesday.
Those who resigned from their posts include Minister for Social Development Ghanashyam Bhandari, Minister for Industry, Tourism, Forest and Environment Suresh Adhikari, Minister for Water Resources and Energy Bijaya Budha and Minister for Economic Affairs and Planning Rajiv Bikram Shah.
Ministers Suresh Adhikari and Bijaya Budha, who resigned from their posts on Wednesday, also signed the no-confidence motion.
The possibility of forming a no-confidence motion against the Chief Minister of Karnali has strengthened the possibility of the formation of the Nepali Congress and the Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) in the province.
A Nepali Congress lawmaker said that the possibility of a new equation is strong as Chief Minister Kandel does not show political honesty.
In the 40-member Karnali Province Assembly, there are 15 lawmakers from the Nepali Congress, 14 from the NCP and 10 from the CPN-UML.
In this arithmetic, the political parties are trying to make a new equation.
The Karnali Province government has been in operation since July 2081 under the leadership of Yamlal Kandel of the CPN-UML with the support of the Nepali Congress.
According to the UML-Congress agreement, the leadership of the UML was extended due to the latest political developments after the NC was supposed to lead the provincial government in April.
