Ramechhap.

An elderly person has been swept away and four employees of a hydropower project are at risk after being swept away by a torrential rain in the Sipreing River at Gaurishankar Rural Municipality in Dolakha district.

Chasman Tamang, 73, of Gaurishankar Rural Municipality-9 was swept away by the flood at around 11 pm last night. According to ward chair Nimgeli Sherpa, Sukdev Shrestha, Surya Bahadur Tamang, Kalyan BK and Binod Shrestha, who are working at Sipring Khola Hydropower Center, have been trapped between the two streams.

He said that immediate rescue was necessary as they were not in a position to go to a safe place.

The flood has also damaged the dam side of the Sipring River Hydropower Station.

The project site is at high risk after the rivulet eroded the land on both sides of the river and the employees there are awaiting rescue.

Ward Chair Sherpa said it was difficult to carry out rescue operations as the Sipreng River is still reeling under continuous flooding.

He said it was a challenge for the rescue teams to reach the site until the weather improved.

The local administration, security agencies and concerned bodies are coordinating to search for the missing and rescue of the four people at risk.

Dolakha: The water level in the rivers and rivulets of Dolakha is rising due to incessant rain, urging the people living on the banks of the river to adopt high alertness.
