The challenge cannot be met without a scientific review of the incident of September 23-24: Prachanda

Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Coordinator of the Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has underscored the need of a serious review of the weaknesses of Nepal’s political leadership, security mechanism and leftist movement.

Addressing a symposium on ‘Role of Leftist Parties in the Present Political Situation’ organized on the occasion of the 48th Pushpalal Memorial Day here today, he termed the events that took place on September 7 and 24, 2002 as a counter-revolutionary phenomenon and claimed that foreign pressure and interference were seen in it. He questioned the role of Nepal’s security agencies and the overall political power and said that the present challenge could not be faced without a scientific evaluation of it. Prachanda said, “We have seen the counter-revolutionary phenomenon of September 23 and 24, 2002, which we have also seen foreign pressure and interference.

We had to see the helplessness of Nepal’s security forces in front of our eyes. Perhaps, after the Sugauli Treaty in Nepal’s history, none of us had to read about such helplessness in history. “

He recalled the history of the Nepal Army and commanders who fought valiantly against the British in the past and questioned why the present situation has arisen.

He said, “What has the power of Nepali, Nepal Army and commanders who fought bravely against the British has come to this situation? Yesterday, we demonstrated the strength of revolt of the Nepalese people against the oppression and tyranny of the feudal autocracy through armed struggle, sometimes peaceful movement, people’s war and people’s movement. But why did the Left parties become so helpless and powerless in the run-up to September 23 and 24? Today’s challenges cannot be met without a proper, proper and scientific review. Prachanda said that although there has been review and self-criticism of the shortcomings in the past, the present situation is not enough to review the shortcomings. Accepting that the leftist movement has made a serious mistake somewhere, he opined that the present situation might be a result of that.

“There’s a lot that can be said,” he said.

We have also reviewed and self-criticized many shortcomings in the past. But this time, such a general review and general self-criticism is not enough. We have made a big mistake somewhere. Stating that the incidents of arson and vandalism in Nepal’s heritage and party offices of various political parties in front of his eyes have raised serious questions, Prachanda said that a deeper analysis of the reasons for this was needed.

“We need to seriously review the reasons behind such a horrific situation, burning of Nepal’s heritages in front of our eyes, burning of party offices of all political parties, burning of many historical materials and destruction in a single day,” he said.
