I reached the border area to understand the pain of the people: Home Minister Gurung
Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Minister for Home Affairs Sudhan Gurung has said that he has been regularly carrying out surprise monitoring at the border points in order to make the security arrangement at the southern border areas more effective.
Speaking at the meeting of the committee today, Home Minister Gurung said that the security bodies were subjected to on-site inspection without prior notice during the surprise monitoring, which would make the bodies working in the border areas more responsible and vigilant.”I have been regularly monitoring the border checkpoints,” he said.
The real situation can be understood by monitoring without prior information and the security agencies are also more responsible and alert. We have been working for necessary reforms and long-term solutions based on the implementation of the directives of the Ministry in the border areas, smuggling, drug smuggling and the problems faced by the citizens. “
He said that during the monitoring, the direct÷ives given by the Ministry would be evaluated or not implemented and the local people would get an opportunity to know the problems being faced by the locals first-hand.
He said that it was necessary to understand the situation on the ground for long-term solution to the problems of smuggling, drug smuggling and other problems facing the citizens from the border. Home Minister Gurung said that suggestions would be collected by holding direct dialogue with the locals and on the basis of that, the implementation of the shortcomings seen in the Ministry has been corrected.
He said, “When we see with our own eyes the problems being faced by the people while going to Chdke, we should come to the ministry and do our homework on them, where are our shortcomings, how we are being smuggled, how the people are suffering, how drugs are entering the country, from which checkpoints, and what is the long-term solution to this.” We will sit directly with the people and talk about it, take their advice and suggestions, come to the ministry on the basis of those suggestions and discuss again that our shortcomings are here and there, they need to be rectified and we are implementing accordingly. Stating that the problems of the police organization were equally serious, he pointed out the need of necessary amendment in the Police Act. He said that the police personnel working in the border areas have not been properly appreciated, saying they are serving in difficult conditions with limited resources.
According to Home Minister Gurung, many of the buildings housing police in border areas are in a dilapidated condition.
According to him, the police personnel have been forced to work day and night in difficult conditions due to the lack of structures like tents, leaky buildings and adequate residential facilities in some places.
