. Buddha Air has added its new ATR 72-600 aircraft. The company brought the aircraft to Nepal from Toulouse, France on Saturday. After completing the necessary paperwork, the aircraft will be brought on commercial flights from next month, the company said.
According to the company, the new aircraft is fitted with a full glass cockpit, modern navigation system, digital flight management and advanced safety systems.
It is claimed that the aircraft is more environmentally friendly and has less noise pollution than the previous series as it consumes less fuel.
The aircraft is equipped with the Required Navigation Performance-Specific Clearance (RNP-AR) approach system, with the help of which it can land safely at Kathmandu and Bhairahawa airports with visibility of around 900 meters.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) is studying to implement the same system at Pokhara International Airport as well.
According to the company, the new technology is expected to reduce flight delays and disruptions due to low visibility, improve flight safety and increase the reliability of air services. Buddha Air is planning to bring another ATR-72-600 aircraft by the end of August or early September.
The company plans to add two more aircraft of the same series within the next few months. Buddha Air currently operates 17 aircraft—one ATR 42-320, 15 ATR 72-500 and one ATR 72-600. Currently, the airline operates more than 140 flights daily towards the domestic sector and regular flights from Kathmandu-Varanasi to Kathmandu-Kolkata towards the international sector.
