Temperatures in six cities in central Japan reached 40 degrees Celsius or above on Saturday, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency. These include all four prefectures in the Tokyo region—Shizuoka, Gifu, Mie, and Aichi.
It’s the longest period of five consecutive days of temperatures of 40 degrees or more since comparative data began available in 2010.
In the city of Kuoana in Mia province, the temperature reached 40.6 degrees Fahrenheit.
In Gifu prefecture, the city of Mino recorded a maximum temperature of 40.8 degrees Celsius and the city of Tajimi 40.7 degrees Celsius.
The temperature was recorded at 40.3 degrees Celsius in Hamamatsu City of Shizuoka Prefecture and 40.0 degrees Celsius in Toyota, Aichi Prefecture. Meanwhile, the town of Kofu in Yamanashi Prefecture, northeast of Shizuoka, also recorded a temperature of 40.0 degrees Celsius
