Biratnagar. The process of reshuffling the provincial governments has begun with the formation of a new power equation between the CPN-UML and the Nepali Communist Party (NCP) at the center.
The government has already been changed in Karnali Province and preparations are underway to change the government in Bagmati and Sudurpaschim Province.
However, there is still no clarity on the timing and leadership of the government change in Koshi Province.
According to the agreement reached at the center, the leadership of the Koshi Province government has been given to the UML.
However, the date for the change of government has been uncertain as no concrete decision has been taken within the UML on whether to continue the incumbent Chief Minister Hikmat Kumar Karki or to forward a new leadership.
CPN-UML leader and former minister Rewati Raman Bhandari has said that there is no immediate change in the provincial government.
According to him, although there has been an agreement on power at the center, there has been no formal discussion among the political parties regarding the formation of the government in Koshi Province.
‘The Congress is now in the government in Koshi. The Nepali Congress has not left and there has been no formal discussion with the parties that will join the government. Therefore, there is no situation to change the government immediately,” he told Nepal News Bank.
Meanwhile, the Nepali Congress (NC) has given a clear indication that it will play the role of the main opposition by quitting the government as per the decision of the Centre. Koshi Province President and NC Parliamentary Party leader Uddhav Thapa said that the NC will remain in the opposition as per the decision of the Centre.
According to him, the process will move ahead in the province as per the new power equation.
According to Article 168 (5) of the constitution, Hikmat Kumar Karki, who is also the secretary of the CPN-UML, is the chief minister of Koshi Province.
