Capacity expansion of Pahalmanpur and Mahendranagar substation completed, final preparations for the operation of Keroun substation of Morang intensified
Kathmandu. Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has intensified works to expand the capacity of substations and strengthen the power infrastructure in various regions of the country to ensure safe, reliable and quality power supply.
As per the directives of Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Biraj Bhakta Shrestha, to improve the reliability of the electricity system, improve the service and resolve the problems as soon as possible, the NEA has completed the capacity expansion of important substations in the Far-Western Province and the final preparations for the operation of new substations in eastern Nepal have been accelerated. Under this, Pahalmanpur 33÷11 kV Substation of Kailali was successfully charged on August 2, 2083 by installing additional 16.6 MVA power transformer to meet the increasing power demand.
Before this, there was only one power transformer with the capacity of 8 MVA. With the operation of the new transformer, it is expected that the capacity, quality and reliability of electricity supply will improve in Pahalmanpur, Sukhad, Bhajani and surrounding areas.
Similarly, two new power transformers of 63 MVA capacity have been successfully brought into operation replacing two 30 MVA and 132÷33 KV power transformers of Mahendranagar 132 kV Substation.
With this, the total conversion capacity of the substation has increased from 60 MVA to 126 MVA. According to NEA, there will be significant improvement in power demand management, reliability of power supply, operation flexibility and service continuity in Mahendranagar and surrounding areas after the capacity expansion.
With the completion of the capacity expansion works in the far-western region, NEA has expedited final preparations to bring the Keroun 132÷33÷11 kV substation of Morang into operation by connecting it to the national grid. Last week, a high-level team led by Managing Director of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Dirgha Kumar Shrestha and Chief of Distribution and Customer Service Directorate Rajan Dhakal had inspected the construction site and reviewed the progress of construction, operation preparation and remaining technical works.
The contractor has expedited remaining works of 132 KV line tapping after Executive Director Shrestha directed to complete the project within the stipulated timeframe. Most of the preparatory works including the construction of new tower, necessary structural work, line clearance have been completed while remaining technical works are in the final stage.
The contractor has proposed that 12 hours shutdown be required to complete the 132 KV line tapping work required to connect the substation to the national grid.
However, Executive Director Shrestha has directed to prepare a detailed action plan to start the shutdown from 3:00 am in the morning and complete all the works in a short period of time to minimize the impact on the general consumers. Accordingly, necessary technical preparations, work schedules, human resource mobilization and coordination have been expedited, the NRA said.
Executive Director Shrestha has also directed to make arrangements to maintain uninterrupted power supply to the affected areas as far as possible through the ‘mini-grid’ concept by making maximum use of the power generating centers in the eastern region to minimize the impact of electricity supply to consumers in the eastern region during the shutdown period.
Accordingly, necessary technical study, system analysis and operation preparations are underway.
According to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), the 132 kV line tapping will be completed on Saturday after receiving the necessary approval.
After the completion of final technical work of testing and commissioning, Kiron 132÷33÷11 kV Substation will be charged soon.
Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) believes that the operation of the Keron substation will ensure quality, reliable and regular power supply to Belbari, Rangeli and surrounding areas of Morang as well as significantly improve the reliability, operational flexibility and quality of electricity service in eastern Nepal.
