Tulsi Lal played a historic role from party building to farmers’ movement: Former President Bhandari
Kathmandu KATHMANDU, May 24: Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari has remembered the contribution of former President Tulsilal Amatya on the occasion of the 29th Memorial Day and paid tribute to the freedom fighters who fought for social justice, democracy and people’s rights.
Speaking at the program, President Bhandari said Tulsilal Amatya had dedicated his entire life to thoughts, principles and service of the people.”I pay my respects to all the veteran fighters who fought for social justice, democracy and people’s rights,” she said.
Tulsilal Amatya devoted his entire life to his thoughts, principles and service to the people. Eight decades ago, he was one of the few people in Nepal to pass MA. At that time, he had plenty of opportunities to live a dignified and comfortable life. But he did not choose the path of personal convenience and prosperity. Instead, he chose the difficult and challenging path of struggle for the rights of farmers, workers and oppressed communities. Stating that Amatya was one of the few people who passed MA in Nepal some eight decades ago, she said that although she had ample opportunity to lead a dignified and comfortable life, she did not choose the path of personal convenience and prosperity.
According to former President Bhandari, Amatya had chosen the difficult and challenging path of struggle for the rights of farmers, workers and oppressed communities.
According to her, Amatya, who has been in a leading role of Communist Party of Nepal since its establishment, had made significant contributions in building the party, expanding the peasant movement, protecting democratic rights and organizing the struggle of working class people against exploitation and feudal oppression.
Bhandari said that the historic farmers’ movement led by Amatya especially in Bara, Rautahat and Sarlahi had played an important role in raising the awareness of farmers’ rights and organizing them.
