. The 14th ‘Green Table’ programme of the Nepali Congress was held on the theme ‘Youth of Nepal: Unprecedented Opportunities of Demographic Dividend and Our Potential’.
Speaking after the program, Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa said that population is the biggest asset of Nepal and it needs proper understanding and management. He said that although water, land and forest are often mentioned as the assets of Nepal, the real strength of the country is the population.
“We have said, repeated and heard many times that water, land and forest are Nepal’s property. But our main asset is population. So we have to have the ability to understand the population in the right way,” he said.
Thapa said that population should not be seen only in terms of numbers or voters.
“How much population we have is not just about how many millions, so many millions. That number may be reflected in the votes for those contesting the election, but not just the population,” he said.
He also said that there is a need to study the situation, distribution, activities and future trends of the population.
‘You have to understand where the population is, what it is doing, what condition it is, where it is going. Not only that, we also need to think about its condition in the next few years,” Thapa said.
