Birth village of ‘Nimsdai’ in mourning: Dream of building a new house unfulfilled
Myagdi. Annapurna Rural Municipality-3 in Myagdi district is in mourning due to the demise of world record holder mountaineer Nirmal Purja ‘Nimsdai’. Relatives, friends and villagers of Pakistan’s birthplace have been shocked by the death while climbing Broad Peak.
Kamala KC, a relative of Nirmal, said that she had hoped for four days to return safely, but that hope eventually turned into despair.
She recalled that Nirmal, who came to Dana two years ago, had shared his plan to build a house in the original style of house on the old ancestral land.
Ramesh Purja, Ward Chairman of Annapurna Rural Municipality-3 and a childhood friend of Nirmal, said that Nirmal was able to set a historic record in world mountaineering due to his courage, determination and determination towards the goal since childhood. He had also planned to build a shelter for porters at the Annapurna Base Camp.
The NIMS Foundation has been working to provide scholarships, educational materials and support in tourism and health sectors.
Annapurna Rural Municipality has declared a holiday on Monday in honour of Nirmal and announced to construct a statue of him.
The locals of Dana have also demanded that the statue be installed as a permanent memorial to the deceased at his birthplace.
Nirmal Purja, who became the world-famous mountaineer from the British Gurkha soldier, had set many records including the fastest climbing of 14 8,000 mountains.
Although his dream of building a house in his birthplace remains unfulfilled, his courage, inspiration and contribution will always remain immortal for the entire Nepal along with Dana ।
