. CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel has said that the communist movement is now in crisis and defensive situation as it failed to learn from the history.
Speaking at a program organized to mark the 24th Botle Memorial Day here today, Pokharel stressed on the need of developing the capacity to face the present challenges by learning from the history itself.”We sang a lot of the praises of our history, but we didn’t learn the lessons of history,” he said.
That is why the communist movement today is in crisis and on the defensive. The movement can attain vitality only if it builds the capacity to face the present challenges on the basis of the lessons of history and takes forward the movement with the determination of the future. “
Pokharel said that the hate language used among the leftist parties has disappointed the leftist voters. He further said that the tendency of showing excessive affinity when there is consensus among the political parties but projecting each other as enemies in case of differences has sent a negative message to the voters.
“The hateful language we use against each other has alienated left-wing voters from us,” he said. The leftist voters have been distracted by the tendency to hug each other when we get together, but attack each other like enemies when we do not agree on the subject and engage in the politics of hatred. If we do not understand this truth, then the assumption that people like whatever they say will prove to be wrong. Pointing out the need to maintain political culture even amidst differences, Pokharel said the leftist leaders should shun the tendency to portray dissent as enmity.
