Kathmandu. KATHMANDU — Prime Minister Balendra Shah has directed the vice-chancellors of universities and medical institutions to implement the decision to remove the structures of political parties and employees’ unions at any cost. He issued the directive during a 3.5-hour long discussion with vice-chancellors of universities and academies across the country at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers on Monday.

Stating that politics should not be done in educational institutions in any pretext, PM Shah clarified that no act would be an obstacle to remove the structures of political organizations. Stating that no political flag, influence or organisation would be allowed to be kept at sacred places like hospitals, colleges and schools, he suggested the people to step away from their professional responsibilities and fully engage in politics.

In response, Prime Minister Shah directed the concerned ministries or their secretariats to immediately inform the concerned ministry or their secretariat if they face any security problem due to removal of structures of political organizations.

On the occasion, Prime Minister Shah said that the government was committed to providing all necessary support including security mechanism and the police administration would fulfill their duties. Prime Minister Shah also directed the authorities to fully abide by the academic calendar and publish the results of the examinations within a month.

Similarly, Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Sasmit Pokharel, said the Act would not stop the effective implementation of the ministry’s directives to scrap the structures of the organizations associated with the political parties.

Vice-Chancellor of Tribhuvan University Prof. Dr. Dipak Aryal said that the student and employees’ unions have gradually become inactive after the ‘Jenji’ movement and the election.
