Kathmandu. Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Rajunath Pandey has warned that the supply to Kathmandu would be cut off if the locals of the source area of the Melamchi Water Supply Project did not get water. Speaking at a meeting of the Infrastructure Development Committee on Wednesday, lawmaker Pandey expressed his ire at the locals of Gokarneshwor Municipality.

Lawmaker Pandey said that the locals of Sundarijal and Gokarneshwor where the source area of Melamchi River and dam are located have not been able to consume water. He blamed the collusion between the employees and technicians in the drinking water distribution system and said that the general public has been facing problems due to this. He objected to the negligence of the mechanism, saying the employees release water in some localities and not in others. Stating that he too had to face irresponsible behavior and irregularities of the employees while installing the drinking water, he said the condition of the general public was even more pathetic.

Referring to the cancellation of the contract for the construction of a 20 million liter water tank at Arubari area, lawmaker Pandey said that the delay in the expansion of the pipeline in the second phase has further affected the locals. He urged the Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited (KUKL) and the engineers and employees of the project to improve their working style.

Stating that dilly-dallying and irresponsibility in the bureaucracy has led to extreme dissatisfaction among the people, he demanded the government to resolve the problem by carrying out on-site monitoring immediately. He said he would not hesitate to take drastic measures like breaking pipes or blocking the source if the government ignored the plight of the people of his constituency.
