. Banks and financial institutions (BFIs) can now take loans up to 80 percent of the vehicle’s cost to purchase electric buses used for public transport.

The Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has increased the loan-value ratio of electric passenger vehicles (EVs) to 80 percent by amending the Unified Directive.

Accordingly, the buyer will have to manage at least 20 percent of the amount from his own source.

Prior to this, a maximum of

60 percent of the loan can be availed on both public and private vehicles. The new system has given special concessions to electric vehicles in public transport. For personal electric vehicles, the old limit of 60 percent has been maintained.

The Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has also provided relief to the industries and businesses affected by the Genji agitation.

Banks can disburse up to 80 percent of the loans in case of replacement of commercial vehicles and transport vehicles damaged during the agitation.

This decision of the central bank is expected to help increase investment in public electric transportation and make it easier for the agitated businessmen to buy vehicles again.
