Kathmandu. The month of July is also known as the month of greenery. In this month, it is customary to wear green bangles, green bangles, green clothes and mehndi on the hands. Especially, there is a Sanatan tradition to consider Saun as a holy month.

Traders at Indrachowk have complained that the sale of green bangles and mehendi in the federal capital Kathmandu has decreased this year as compared to the previous year.

According to them, the business of bangles and mehendi has decreased in the market this year, even though women living in urban areas have started wearing mehndi, green bangles and yellow bangles on their hands lately.

Traders at Pote Bazaar in Indra Chowk said that the nature of business is changing. According to them, although the market is not as crowded as before, the number of customers looking for quality goods is still increasing. At the same time, with the increase in online business, the style of doing business has also changed.

Kali Mudin, a family entrepreneur who has been running a potte business for the past 12-13 years, said that although the crowd at Indra Chowk is not as crowded as before, the business is satisfactory. According to him, although the movement of customers in the market is less as most of the transactions are done online, the business is continuous.

“It’s been 12-13 years since I started doing it. It’s a family business for me. In the past, our brothers didn’t do much business in the paint. Now they are doing the business of painting in many places. ’

According to him, the trend of wearing painting has increased in the Nepali community in recent years. Stating that separate business zones of painting and bangles have been developed in Indrachowk, he said that the attraction of customers towards new designs of goods is increasing.

“Business is going well,” he said. It’s not as crowded as it used to be. Business is good. Since it is a digital business, we also send it online. But customers come to Indrachowk to seek quality.

According to Mudin, the painted goods sold at Indrachowk are mainly imported from the Czech Republic, Japan and China. He said that according to the needs and price of the customers, the goods will be available from cheap to expensive. He said that many customers come to Indra Chowk in search of quality jewelry as it is used with gold jewelry.

According to him, the price of the pots and garlands varies according to the design, artistry and production process. He said that although the general design garlands are available from Rs 20-50, handcrafted and special design items are expensive.

Mudin said that most of the business will be done during Dashain. According to him, red and green paintings on Teej, special designs of garlands in Saun and wedding also increase business. He said that out of the year, there will be an offseason only for two to three months.

Gyanu Moktan, another entrepreneur of Indrachowk, said that there has been a significant decline in business in recent period. According to him, the number of customers has decreased significantly compared to before.

Moktan said that traditional shops have been affected by the economic slowdown, the decline in import from India and the expansion of online business. According to him, the number of customers visiting physical stores has decreased due to the online service to deliver goods to the customers. According to him, the lack of online transaction has directly affected the business.

“There’s very little business going on,” she said. This time it’s much less. There is confusion whether it is the economic recession or the new system. There hasn’t been much stuff either. The lack of business in certain shops may be due to online. There is also a tradition of delivering it to every house. ’

She said that although customers of all age groups are coming now, shopping will not be like before. According to him, the purchase of new ones has decreased as some customers use old bangles.

She said that although there is some business throughout the year as the bangles are a regular use by women, the turnover has decreased significantly compared to the previous years.

Shiva Kumar Gautam, another entrepreneur of Indrachowk, said that the sale of bangles and bangles has been steadily declining in the last three to four years. According to him, it has become difficult to sustain daily expenses as the movement of customers in the market has decreased drastically.

Gautam, who has been involved in the family business for around 15 years, said that the current business has become very weak compared to the previous years. He said that he is struggling to pay the rent of his shop as he is earning enough to meet the daily expenses of salt and oil.

According to him, although there was improvement in business for some time after the corona epidemic, the market has gradually become deserted since then. He said that the trade has been directly affected due to the weak purchasing power of consumers due to economic recession, cash shortage in the market and rising inflation.

Gautam said that although the price of goods has increased, the number of customers has not increased. Stating that the business of traditional shops has been further affected as consumers have been attracted to online shopping in recent period, he said that they also felt the need to move towards online business.

New designs of green bangles and paintings have been put on sale in various markets of the capital. Both domestic and imported bangles and pots have been put up for sale keeping in mind the choice of the customers.

Although the footfall of customers at Pote and Chura Bazaar of Indrachowk is slightly less than in the previous years, the choice of consumers coming for shopping is still focused on quality products. Customers who reach the market say that they buy goods by giving priority to culture, tradition and quality despite the increase in price.

Bimala Ramdam, who went to Indrachowk to buy bangles and bangles, said she is satisfied with the quality of the materials available in the market. According to her, the choice of goods varies according to the thoughts and tastes of the people, but in Nepali society, the bangles are not only a fashion item but also associated with religious and cultural traditions.

According to him, it is customary for married women to wear bangles and bangles as per Hindu rituals. She said that the demand for quality materials is increasing in the market with the new design.

Similarly, another customer Mina Baraili shared her experience that the price of bangles and bangles has increased in recent times. According to him, traders have reported that the price of imported goods has increased due to the increase in China’s currency rate, which has affected the price of consumers.

According to Baraili, in Nepali society, the bangles and bangles are used as a symbol of culture and religious tradition rather than fashion. According to her, the tradition of Nepali women wearing bangles and bangles as per Hindu culture and social norms is still maintained even today.

Hindus consider the month of Saun as the month of Lord Shiva. Hindu men and women worship Lord Shiva throughout the month of Saun. In the month of July, women wear green bangles and yellow bangles on their hands. Similarly, men wear yellow clothes ।
