. The Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee under the House of Representatives has directed the government to immediately shift the child correction home in Rupandehi.
Concluding that the existing building was congested and unsuitable for the operation of the child correction centre, the committee directed the concerned ministries to shift the reformatory centre to the building of the District Coordination Committee, Rupandehi. In the meeting of the committee held on Sunday, committee president Samikshya Banskota pointed out the need to immediately shift the existing child reform home based on the suggestions received during the on-site monitoring of the sub-committee.
She also urged the government to make arrangements to hand over the building where the child reform home is currently housed to the District Coordination Committee, Rupandehi.
The committee has directed the Ministry of Women, Children, Gender and Sexual Minority and Social Security to immediately implement the decision by coordinating with the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation, Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration among other bodies. The committee has stressed that the government should be serious to ensure a safe, systematic and child-friendly environment for children by improving the management of child correction homes. In the meeting, Minister for Women, Children, Gender and Sexual Minority and Social Security, Sita Badi, expressed the government’s commitment to implement the implementable suggestions mentioned in the report of the sub-committee in a phased manner. She pointed out the problem of overcrowding of children in child correction homes, lack of physical infrastructure, lack of education, health, nutrition, psychosocial services, skilled human resources, management of people above 18 years of age, legal aid, rehabilitation and regular monitoring. Minister Badi said that the Ministry has taken these suggestions seriously and the issues that can be implemented will be implemented in a phased manner with priority.
The President said that the government was committed to improving the service and management of the child reform home, protection of child rights, effective implementation of juvenile justice and fulfilling the constitutional and legal obligations of the state ।
