15 houses at high risk of flooding in Gaurishankar Rural Municipality-8 of Dolakha

As many as 15 houses in Gaurishankar Rural Municipality-8 of Dolakha are at high risk of flooding after the Khare rivulet eroded the land.Dolakha: The Logata settlement at Gaurishankar Rural Municipality-8 in Dolakha district is at high risk after the Khare rivulet eroded the land due to floods triggered by incessant rains. Locals said that around 10 houses in the settlement have to be immediately shifted to safer places.

Rabindra Surel, a local, said that most of the 14-15 houses in the settlement are at risk of disaster.

Locals Pahal Bahadur Tamang, Dhanbir Tamang and Ratna Bahadur Tamang have been forced to leave their homes due to floods. They have been shifted to a safer place. Similarly, the houses of Buddhiman Tamang, Arat Bahadur Tamang and Dinesh Tamang are also at high risk and need to be relocated. 

According to Dawarenji Sherpa, ward chair of Gaurishankar Rural Municipality-8, temporary shelters have been constructed with the help of Armed Police Force and locals. Similarly, the houses of Bhakta Bahadur Tamang, Dhan Bahadur Tamang and Bir Bahadur Tamang, who live a little above the river bank, are also at risk and they have to stay elsewhere during the rainy season. A team led by rural municipality chair Bishwas Karki inspected the incident site after the settlement was at risk.

Ward Chair Sherpa said the rural municipality and ward office were preparing to construct temporary tents and provide other necessary support to the affected people. 

Most of the families at risk are currently taking shelter in the homes of their relatives.

Ward chair Sherpa informed that they would be permanently shifted to a safer place after the necessary management is completed ।
