. New Delhi: Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the ongoing NEET exam controversy and the students’ agitation. He described Prime Minister Modi as India’s “past” and the agitating students as the “future” of the country.
Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Gandhi alleged that the entire system of government was targeting the youth.
He urged the agitating students not to back down from their demands and said that they were with them.
‘It’s the same system that’s attacking them. I have told the students not to panic. All the forces of the Government of India together cannot remove you from there. They are the future of India and no one can fight against it. Narendra Modi is India’s past, the past can never fight the future,” Gandhi said.
He also demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi apologise to the students and immediately remove Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan from his post.
The main person running this system is the Prime Minister. He should understand that this is not a matter of suggestion, the demand of the students is the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Students have been attacked, they have been insulted, so the Prime Minister should apologise,” he said.
Meanwhile, Kakaroch Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijit Dipke, who has been protesting against the alleged irregularities in the NEET exam, has said that the agitation will continue until Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigns. Social activist Sonam Wangchuk, who ended her 26-day hunger strike, said that while expressing relief over her health, Dipke said that she would not back down from the main demands of the movement.
“Our agitation will continue until Dharmendra Pradhan resigns. We are happy and relieved that Sonam sir has ended her hunger strike as her life is very important for the country,” he said. Dipke insisted that any talks with the government should be held at a neutral venue and no other option other than the resignation of the Education Minister would not be acceptable.
Social activist Sonam Wangchuk ended her 26-day-long hunger strike on Friday in support of the students over the LVT paper leak case.
Responding to those who questioned his decision on social media, he said he did not need a “character certificate” to prove his commitment to the movement.
Wangchuk said he ended his hunger strike after the central government gave written assurances about the reform of the NEET examination system and structural reforms in competitive examinations.
He said that there was a delay of two days for the written commitment as only verbal assurances were given earlier. After a two-hour-long meeting with Union ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh, the CJP representatives claimed that the government has sought time till Saturday afternoon to discuss the demand for the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
