. Finance Minister Dr. KATHMANDU: Swarnim Wagle has urged the Nepalis living abroad to have faith in the government’s and his party’s motto of ‘One time Nepali, always Nepali’. He also called on Nepalis living abroad to come forward as important partners in Nepal’s economic development and investment expansion.
Addressing a conference organized virtually by Nepali youth entrepreneurs based in Australia on Saturday, Finance Minister Wagle said that the government has adopted a policy to further strengthen the relations with the Non-Resident Nepalis.
“Our belief is clear that ‘Nepali, once Nepali, always Nepali’. Rest assured of that,” he said. Describing Nepalis living abroad as ‘goodwill ambassadors’ for Nepal’s development and expansion of investment, he said that the new government was creating new opportunities for good governance and economic development. Collaboration of Non-Resident Nepalis is essential for it, he said.
On the occasion, Finance Minister Wagle said that the budget for the current fiscal year has taken initiatives for reforms in tax system, revenue mobilization, budget distribution and investment climate.
Pledging that the government would facilitate in taking back the return of the investment made in Nepal in an easy manner, he urged the Nepalis living abroad including Australia to take initiative to bring their own and foreign investment to Nepal.
‘Important doors have been opened to facilitate the Diaspora to bring investment in Nepal. You are our goodwill ambassadors. You are the most effective facilitator to bring your own legitimate and foreign investment to Nepal,” he said.
Stating that the government has introduced transformative concepts such as NRNA bonds, offshore bonds and alternative finance mobilization targeting Non-Resident Nepalis, he clarified that these provisions were brought with the objective of expanding investment in Nepal. Stating that the government has set the goal of reviving the economy by mobilizing resources outside the government treasury, Finance Minister Wagle urged the Nepali diaspora to give clear suggestions on the facilitation to be added by the government.
