. The Nagma-Gamgadhi road section has been completely obstructed due to a landslide that occurred at Chhayanath Rara municipality-8 in Mugu district for the past two days. Hundreds of passenger buses, cargo vehicles and hundreds of passengers have been stranded due to the incessant landslide since Saturday morning.
According to the Road Division Office, Jumla, the landslide occurred at around 50 meters wide and 100 meters long.
Although efforts are being made to clear the landslide with the help of JCB, the work has been affected due to continuous landslide falling from above. According to the office, additional JCB and human resources have been mobilized to take the situation under control.
According to the Road Division Office, the contract for double cutting of the road, construction of side drains and installation of gabin mesh in the landslide-affected areas has been done in the 98 plus 300 chainage area from Jhyari Khola to Talcha Airport.
Currently, the road clearing and removal of landslides from Jhyari Khola to Talcha has been intensified. Juggi Bahadur Malla, supervisor of the Road Division Office, Jumla, said that they are expected to bring the road into operation by Tuesday if the rain stops.
Patients and other passengers heading to Surkhet, Nepalgunj and Kathmandu for treatment have been stranded on the way due to the closure of the road.
Dozens of cargo trucks carrying food and trade goods from Nepalgunj and Surkhet are also left stranded on the road.
Passengers have complained that the local people’s representatives, local people’s representatives, police and administration have not exerted pressure on the contractor to complete the work on time.
Passenger Akkal Singh Kumal said that they had to spend the night on the road as there was no decision regarding when the road would be opened.
Locals have complained that the condition of the road has not improved even after 14 years of being connected to the Gamgadhi road, the headquarters of Mugu.
Driver Khagendra Khadka said that the road has become risky due to mud and landslide in the rainy season and dust in winter.
Kamal Bahadur Budha, president of Mugu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said they were coordinating with the District Administration Office, Mugu and Road Division Office, Jumla to bring the road into operation soon.
