Govt committed to empower province: PM Shah
KATHMANDU — Prime Minister Dr. Balendra Shah has said empowerment of provinces and effective implementation of rights guaranteed by the constitution were the top priorities of the government.
In a meeting held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar on Friday, Prime Minister Shah said that the full and effective implementation of the constitution would strengthen federalism and empower the provinces. Stating that the practice of federalism was continuously moving ahead after the promulgation of the new
constitution, the Prime Minister clarified that the government was committed to the effective devolution of rights from the centre to the provinces and from the provinces to the local levels.
Stating that the budget presented by the government was inclusive, he said that the budget was aimed at incorporating the interests of all geographical regions, communities and marginalized groups of the country. He also reiterated his commitment as the Prime Minister to treat all Nepalese citizens equally and that the Prime Minister’s Office would be equally accountable to every citizen. Stressing that no compromise could be made on the fundamental values of the constitution, democratic system, rule of law and national unity in the present
sensitive situation, he urged all sides to exercise patience.
“The future of all Nepalis will be strong only when the constitution is strong,” he said, calling on all political parties, social and religious leaders and the general public to stand firmly in favour of dialogue, restraint and national unity. The meeting was attended by Mahantha Thakur, Rajendra Mahato, Lalbabu Raut, Ram Kumar Sharma, Samim Miya Ansari, Prabhu Sah, Sharat Singh Bhandari and Dr. Ram Kumar Sharma.
CK Raut and other Tarai-Madhes leaders were present on the occasion.
On the occasion, the leaders presented their suggestions and views on contemporary problems of Tarai-Madhes region, security challenges, guarantee of good governance and effective implementation of federalism.
