. KATHMANDU: The United States of America has decided to permanently enforce the provision of deposits on tourist (B-2) and business (B-1) visas for citizens of 50 countries including Nepal.
According to the new
provision, Nepali applicants will have to deposit between $10,000 and $20,000 (about Rs 15 to 3 million) before getting a visa. Previously, the trial system set bail at $5,000 to $15,000.
According to the U. S. Department of State, the deposit amount will be fully refunded if the visa is rejected or returned home before the expiry of the visa. According to the ministry, this provision has been made permanent to control the trend of overstaying in the US illegally even after the expiry of the visa.
This rule will apply to citizens of 50 countries including Nepal, Bangladesh and Bhutan from South Asia.
