. KATHMANDU: The CPN (UML) has expressed deep sorrow over the demise of world renowned mountaineer Nirmal Purja ‘Nims Dai’. “The party is deeply shocked and saddened by the news of the loss of their lives in an avalanche at Broad Peak Mountain in Pakistan,” the UML said in a statement.
Issuing a condolence statement, party general secretary Shankar Pokhrel said that the untimely demise of Nirmal Purja and his courageous companions has caused an irreparable loss to the nation due to the untimely demise of Nirmal Purja and his courageous companions, who set a new record in the history of mountaineering and climbed 14 mountains above 8,000 meters in six months and 6 days. The deceased have been identified as Nirmal Purja along with former Bahadur Gurung ‘Yukta’, Kili Pemba Sherpa ‘Kilu’, Nima Sherpa, Nwang Thindu Sherpa and Gyyalu Sherpa.
Describing the deceased mountaineers as “invaluable national heritage of the nation” and “courageous descendants”, the UML said they had taught the world lessons of courage and determination.
“This is a tragic end to a golden chapter in Nepal’s mountaineering history,” the statement reads.
The CPN-UML has paid heartfelt tribute to all mountaineers including the late Nirmal Purja.
The CPN-UML has expressed its deepest condolences to the bereaved family members, relatives and well-wishers who lost their loved ones in this difficult time of grief.
