Fire breaks out on a passenger train in Bihar, India
Kathmandu. A fire broke out in the engine of a passenger train and its compartment in Bihar’s Saharsa district on Monday morning. Passengers were evacuated immediately after the fire and there were no human casualties, officials said.
The fire broke out in the engine of the Samastipur-Saharsa passenger train (63344) at Simri Bakhtiyarpur railway station at around 3:40 am.
Assistant Fire Officer Niranjan Kumar of the Saharsa Fire Control Office said that a team of foam tender and water tender was sent to the spot after receiving information about the fire in the engine of the train.
The fire is now under control.
“A rescue team was immediately mobilized after receiving information about the fire in the locomotive. The fire has been brought under control and no casualties have been reported so far,” he said.
One of the passengers said that the fire broke out at around 3:40 in the morning, causing a lot of trouble to the passengers.
Passengers have been stranded and train services have been affected due to the fire.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
The concerned authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. In May last year, a fire broke out in the empty compartments of the Jaynagar-Udhna Antyodaya Express stationed at Madhubani railway station in Bihar. One of the compartments was completely gutted in the fire that broke out during the shunting on the platform. ANI
