. The LG Skills Education Program, which aims to connect youths with employment and entrepreneurship through technical skills, has further strengthened the collaboration between education, private sector and local government.
Jonathan Chantha, Managing Director, LG Singapore, Nirvana Chaudhary, Managing Director, Chaudhary Group (CG), and Surendra Bajgain, a teacher at Kathmandu Model College, expressed their views on the topic of skill oriented education, job creation and capacity building of youths. Speaking at the event, Mr. Chantha said that LG Electronics has been developing various technologies and solutions since 1958 with the objective of making the lives of consumers easier, quality and better. Stating that creating value in the customer’s life is the company’s philosophy, he said that he is trying to simplify modern technology like artificial intelligence (AI) to make consumers’ lives easier.
LG is working in the areas of home entertainment, home appliances, air conditioning and energy solutions, and electric vehicle component manufacturing.
He further added that Nepal has been conducting digital education and technical skill development programs, prioritizing social responsibility (CSR) programs along with business activities. He said that the goal was to provide employment and self-employment opportunities to the youths through training especially on the installation and maintenance of appliances like air conditioners and refrigerators.
Sharing his 34 years of professional experience, he described continuous learning as the key to success and happiness.
Nirvana Chaudhary, managing director of Chaudhary Group, said, “LG has been established as a leading electronics brand in Nepal for the last 40 years.
He said that in the last decade, LG and CG have been running various programs prioritizing skill development as part of their social responsibility.
According to Chaudhary, LG and CG have jointly provided technical training to about 400 youths so far.
Among them, around 30 per cent have got employment opportunities, he said. He said that with the rapid development of artificial intelligence and digital technology, practical and technical skills are still very important.
Chaudhary Foundation’s Nabil School of Social Entrepreneurship program has been implemented and 1,200 youths have graduated, over 1,100 new jobs have been created and 46 new businesses have been established in the last three years.
Stating that the programme was being run in collaboration with 16 colleges across the country, he urged the youths to participate in such programmes to gain entrepreneurship and business knowledge.
Surendra
Bajgain, a teacher at Kathmandu Model College, said that the partnership between educational institutions, private sector and local government has made the campaign effective to make youths self-reliant and skill-upset. The collaboration between Kathmandu Model College, Kathmandu Metropolitan City, LG and CG is a common effort for practical skill development.
He said that learning outside the classroom is equally important, adding that such programs will inspire students and youths.
He said that there is a possibility that the trained people can run their own business or get employment in various reputed organizations, hospitals, hotels and industries.
The speakers emphasized that skill development should not be limited to training but should be taken as the foundation of self-confidence, positive thinking, continuous learning and entrepreneurship.
They expressed the belief that such programmes would not only make youths job-oriented but also contribute to the economic and social development of the country. According to the organizers, the program aims to produce capable, self-reliant and employment-oriented human resources by providing technical and vocational skills to the youths.
