. KATHMANDU: Former Prime Minister and coordinator of the Communist Party of Nepal Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said that the communist movement should be objectively reviewed and should move ahead with new determination by learning from history.
Speaking at a program organized on the occasion of the 24th Botle Memorial Day here today, Prachanda pointed out the need to collectively study and review the experiences, achievements and weaknesses of the communist movement. He also proposed the formation of a group comprising leaders of the major leftist parties to investigate and review history.
“We need to review history,” he said. We need to discuss where we went wrong. You have to make a determination to move forward. There is no reason to be disappointed. I believe that if we learn from the experiences of history and move forward with determination, we can succeed again. It would be a great achievement if the leaders of all the major leftist parties could collectively discuss and review history in an investigative manner. It will also help in preparing research material for future generations. Stating that the communist movement was facing a challenging situation, he said introspection was inevitable to come out of it.
Similarly, Prachanda claimed that the political leadership overcame the challenges and made the process successful despite attempts to create obstacles from various power centers in the course of the peace process and constitution drafting. He said, “Attempts were made by various power centers to prevent the promulgation of the constitution and the signing of the peace agreement.
But we won. A peace agreement was signed and a constitution was made. We’ve done a lot of work. The propaganda that we have done nothing is not true. Remarkable progress has been made in various sectors including infrastructure development, education and health. But once we started leading the government, we could not continue with our strategic vision. “
Prachanda said that self-reflection, ideological clarity and common determination were necessary to strengthen the communist movement again.
