. Gorkha, Feb. 13÷11 kV substation at Ghyampesal of Bhimsen Thapa Rural Municipality in Gorkha district has successfully charged up. The substation, which has not been brought into operation since long due to local obstruction and right of way, is expected to make the electricity supply system of North Gorkha more qualitative, reliable and effective.
The substation was constructed under the Distribution System Improvement and Expansion Project under the Project Management Directorate of Nepal Electricity Authority.
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of Nepal jointly funded the project.
The project will construct 33÷11 kV substations, 33 kV transmission lines, 11 kV feeders and 400 volt LT distribution line in Doti, Kailali, Rolpa, Kapilvastu, Arghakhanchi, Palpa, Rupandehi, Nawalparasi, Tanahun, Gorkha, and Myagdi. Acting Managing Director of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Dirgha Kumar Shrestha said that the people of Northern Gorkha will be greatly benefited after the operation of the substation.”With the operation of this substation, around 15,
000 people of six rural municipalities of northern Gorkha will get reliable and quality electricity service,” he said. Likewise, 10 MW electricity generated from the under-construction Barpak Daraudi Hydropower project will also be connected to the national grid through this substation. With the operation of the substation, the problem of electricity supply seen in the rural municipalities of northern Gorkha will be solved and the voltage will improve. Earlier, electricity supply from Gorkha Bazaar substation to long route was disrupted in the northern region and the quality of electricity was affected.
Lok Prasad Banjara, chairman of Bhimsen Thapa Rural Municipality, said that the operation of the Ghyampesal substation has fulfilled the long-standing expectation of the people of northern Gorkha. According to him, the substation will get quality and regular electricity service after the substation comes into operation. With the operation of the Ghyampesal substation, it is expected to help expand industrial, agricultural and tourism-related activities in northern Gorkha.
It will also be easier to connect the power generated from the hydropower projects in the region to the national grid.
