. Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) lawmaker Tahir Ali Bhat has expressed sorrow over the recent incidents in the Tarai region including Sunsari and urged all sides to maintain religious harmony.

Speaking at the meeting of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, Bhat said that Rabindra Kumar Mehta, who was injured in the Tarai incident, died and paid tribute to the deceased.

He expressed grief over the death toll in the incident at four.

Lawmaker Bhat said that religious texts have given the message of equality and harmony among all human beings, adding that no religion teaches hatred towards people of other religions. He said that the Hindu scripture Gita has the spirit of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ and ‘Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah’ and the Quran has given the same message to the entire human race. Lawmaker Bhat said that religious tolerance has been prevailing in Nepal for a long time and the recent incidents have affected social harmony.

Claiming that the Muslim community in Nepal has not made any impact on national unity and integrity, he called on all Nepalis to come together to find a solution to such incidents.

He also praised the role played by the Home Minister in controlling the tension in Sunsari and Tarai areas.

Stating that positive works should be appreciated despite being in the opposition party, he said the Home Minister had helped to bring the situation under control by taking timely initiatives.

Lawmaker Bhat also expressed his views on the issue of Hindu state and made it clear that the concept of Hindu state demanded by RPP was not against any community.

He said the RPP was in favour of respect for all religions and goodwill of all religions.

Stating that all communities including Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, Christians and others live together in Nepal, he said the religious conflict would weaken the country.

He stressed the need of spreading the education of social harmony in the villages to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
