Kathmandu. Rastriya Swatantra Party (Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Khagendra Karna has accused the hospital of being reluctant to provide treatment to pregnant women due to a shortage of Rs 700 in Saptari.
Speaking at the meeting of the House of Representatives on Thursday, lawmaker Karna said that Babita Paswan, wife of Hareram Paswan of Prasai Tole of Rajbiraj-14, had reached the hospital with labour pains and was compelled to give birth outside the hospital premises due to financial constraints.
He said, “Babita Paswan, wife of Hareram Paswan of Prasain Tole in Rajbiraj-14, goes to the hospital with labor pain. The hospital asks him to cut the bill of 3200, but he says that he has only 2500. He was reluctant to treat him as he was short of 700. Lawmaker Karna said that although Gajendra Narayan Singh Hospital, Saptari is a reliable centre for health treatment for the poor, indigent, helpless and low-income citizens, it is a serious matter that women are forced to give birth on the street due to lack of funds.
He said that although the government was talking big in the health sector, it was unfortunate that women had to give birth outside the hospital due to financial constraints.
He said, “A woman has to give birth outside the hospital due to lack of money, while we are talking big about health.” “
Lawmaker Karna demanded an explanation from the Minister for Health and Population, saying that the incident has exposed the situation of poor, victimized and Dalit women in Saptari to health services.
