Selfish attacks on judiciary unacceptable, state power shrinks when national institutions weaken: Nain Singh Mahar
Kathmandu. Nepali Congress leader Nain Singh Mahar has said that the independence and credibility of the major organs of the state including the judiciary should not be compromised. Stating that there is a risk of the collapse of the overall state power as the national institutions are weakened, he stressed on institutional strengthening.
After the issue of the judiciary and other state agencies being embroiled in ‘settings’ and controversies came to light in recent days, Mahar said that such activities have raised serious questions. Stating that the overall national capacity was shrinking due to the weakening of the permanent institutions of the country, he pointed out the need of serious national discussion and awareness on this issue.
Reminding that the rule of law and the rule of law are the lifeblood of democracy, Mahar made it clear that any conspiracy to defame the entire judiciary to serve the interests of a particular person or group would not be acceptable. He, however, said that serious issues raised in public cannot be ignored and demanded an impartial investigation into such cases and legal action against the guilty. He said that protecting the dignity of the institution and judicially redressing the distortions within it are equally important democratic obligations. He argues that in a political system where the government is changing, it is not enough to have a powerful government.
“Strong, independent and accountable permanent institutions are needed to build an efficient state,” Mahar said. He said that the efficiency of national institutions, economic prosperity and aware citizens are the main basis for the success of the country.
Stating that political stability, institutional strengthening and people’s trust could only strengthen prosperous society, social justice and national unity, leader Mahar said building a strong government, capable state and prosperous nation was the main need of the hour.
