Dane Bohara / Nepal News Bank

Humla. A woman who was suffering from labour pains in the mountainous district of Humla has been rescued by a Nepal Army helicopter after five days. Diki Sangmu Tamang (Lama), 33, of Namkha Rural Municipality-3, who was suffering from pain, was airlifted on Friday morning and taken to Surkhet Provincial Hospital in Kalagaun, said senior auxiliary nurse Sarita Bohara of the District Hospital, Humla.

The mother and infant were rescued on Friday morning at the initiative of various agencies to save their lives. Lama was referred outside the district after she could not be treated at the district hospital due to lack of blood, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Shankar Khadka of the District Police Office, Humla.

Due to the lack of specialist doctors, limited resources and necessary equipment, women here are losing their lives prematurely. Similarly, the cost of the Nepal Army helicopter is borne by the ‘President Women Rescue Programme’ under the Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens.
