KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has kicked off social, cultural and traditional activities in the Asan region from Saturday with the slogan “Vibrant and Prosperous (Asan)”. Spokesperson Nabin Manandhar said that the programme is being launched with the objective of reviving the physical heritages and non-physical heritages associated with the area.
Stating that managerial challenges have been added in the inner urban areas of Kathmandu in recent period due to the pressure of human and vehicular movement, he said that the program was an effort to revive the religious, cultural and social lifestyle based on the knowledge and skills of our ancestors. According to him, social and cultural, local knowledge and skills, singing, playing and dancing will be organized in the area.
Conservation and promotion of living tangible intangible heritages in the area, demonstration of traditional religious, cultural, social and traditional business activities and promotional activities will be conducted. Ward No. Under the leadership of 27 offices, Annapurna RCT Club, local clubs, Tole Improvement Committee, Guthiyar stakeholders and partners will participate in the program and will run from Milachhi (Kamalaxi) Chowk to Asan, Bhotahiti Chowk to Asan and Mahabouddha to Asan. Vehicles will be prohibited from entering the program area during the program which will be held every Saturday.
Vehicles will not be allowed to enter from Jamal towards Asan from Kamilachhi (Kamalachhi) Singh Gate during the program. Similarly, there will be no entry to Asan from the Bhotahiti Kalash door. Entry of vehicles from Bir Hospital to Mahabouddha Stupa will be prohibited. No entry will be allowed from Batu Ganesh and Ganesh Temple to Mahabuddhista Stupa. Entry of vehicles will be stopped from Indrachowk. Motorcycles will also be stopped from entering Machhindra Bahal. You will not be allowed to enter through Tood Alley.
From Gosif, one can go to Inbahal and Inbahal Ganesh temples. Entry from Ganesh temple to Pilantu Gali will not be banned. You will not be allowed to go from Nhketla to Asan. Entry from Jyatha Annapurna School towards Kantipath will be stopped. Motorists will have to use alternative routes through this area. Similarly, visitors coming to Asan on this day will have to enter Asan on foot by parking vehicles at Dharahara underground parking, Jamal Bahal, Durbar High School and other designated places.
The KMC believes that the program will help promote entrepreneurship and professional development of the locals. Preparations are underway to run the program in Ward 25 area along with the program to be run by Ward 27. For this, the ward is conducting discussions at the community level.
Free Water ATM Machine Operation
The free water ATM machine will be launched on April 5. Eight water ATM booths have been set up in Kathmandu Metropolitan City at a cost of Rs 26 million. The water ATMs constructed at equal cost of Kathmandu Metropolitan City and Upatyaka Drinking Water Management Board will provide drinking water of National Drinking Water Quality Standard 2079 for free.
