Kathmandu. MAKWANPUR: An incident has come to light in Bhimphedi rural municipality-2 of Makwanpur district when a government vehicle was used for private purpose during a public holiday.
Locals have strongly objected to the use of government vehicles for family outings besides office work.
According to eyewitness Sunil Waiba, government vehicles with registration numbers Bagmati Province 01-002 J 7184, Ba 2 Bha 1391 and Province 3-03-001 J 0028 were seen stranded in front of hotels, distilleries and entertainment venues for a long time on holidays. He said that the occupants of the vehicle were involved in drinking and eating and in some cases even going out for a walk with their family members.
Kumari Syangtaan, a local, said that it was a serious misuse to use the public vehicles for personal use. “It is condemnable to consume alcohol on holidays and use government vehicles for family outings,” she said. According to the locals, the tendency of stopping government vehicles for hours in the name of ‘lunch break’ is increasing in the area along the Tribhuvan Highway. They say that the presence of government vehicles in the bars and bars in the evening is a clear sign of misuse.
As per the law, a government vehicle cannot be used except for official purposes. However, locals have complained that it is being openly violated in practice. They have questioned the lack of effective monitoring and action by the police and the concerned regulatory bodies in such activities. Expressing anger, a local said, “Why does the body that takes action against ordinary citizens for a small mistake remain silent on the misuse of government vehicles? Shouldn’t the law be the same for everyone?”
Local leader Tshering Lama has demanded an immediate investigation into the incident. “An investigation should be conducted as soon as possible to find out which agency the vehicles belonged to, why they were used and under whose instructions,” he said. This trend will not stop until strict action is taken against the culprits,” he said. The incident has raised serious questions about the transparency and accountability of government resources. The locals have demanded an impartial investigation and stern action against the culprits. They say that if such incidents are ignored, the misuse of government resources will increase and the trust of the citizens in the state will be weakened.
