Kathmandu. Home Minister Sudan Gurung has resigned from his post. He wrote on social media on Wednesday that he has decided to step down from his responsibility. He wrote on social media that he has taken serious note of the questions, comments and public concerns raised by the citizens on his shares and other issues in recent days.

He has made it clear that he has resigned to pave the way for an impartial investigation, saying that morality and public trust are more important than the post. He wrote, “I, Sudan Gurung, have been working honestly in the responsibility of Home Minister since March 27, 2002. In recent days, I have taken seriously the questions, comments and public concerns raised on my share and other issues from the citizen level. For me, morality is more important than the position, and there is no greater power than public trust.

Today, the Jenji movement, which is demanding good governance, transparency and accountability in the country, has also given the same message: public life should be clean and leadership should be accountable. If anyone questions the government formed on the basis of the blood and sacrifice of my 46 brothers and sisters, the answer is morality. Therefore, I have resigned from the post of Home Minister with effect from today with the intention that there should be an impartial investigation into the matters related to me and that there should be no conflict of interest while in office. ’

He said that he immediately stepped down to ensure that there is no “conflict of interest” while in office and that the investigation is not affected. He also described his move as an act of moral responsibility. He said that the Jenji movement, which is demanding good governance, transparency and accountability in the country, has given a message that public life should be clean and leadership should be accountable.

He urged all sides to stand on the path of truth, honesty and self-purification. Addressing the media, general public and youth, Gurung said that sacrifice and moral courage are needed for real change.
