Kathmandu. KATHMANDU — Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal (DP) has said the government was always committed to not let the freedom and autonomy of humanity be violated from anywhere. Speaking at the 26th anniversary of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) here today, Speaker Aryal said that the parliament is committed to play its role in the implementation of the recommendations received from the international human rights mechanisms through the fourth round of global periodic review.
“I am committed to play a role on behalf of the parliament in the implementation of international human rights mechanisms, especially the recommendations received through the fourth round of the Global Periodic Review and the recommendations received from the treaty bodies,” he said. ’
He also praised the Human Rights Commission and the civil society for their efforts to address the issue of human trafficking.
According to him, Nepal has ratified the Palermo Protocol, a complementary article to the United Nations Convention Against Transnational Organized Crime, with significant progress in the areas of prevention, protection and prosecution as well as a concrete commitment to fight trafficking in persons.
“I would like to commend the National Human Rights Commission and civil society for their efforts to address the issue of human trafficking. “Nepal has ratified the Palermo Protocol, a complementary article to the United Nations Convention Against Transnational Organized Crime, in order to realize the concrete commitment to combat trafficking in persons, along with significant progress in the field of prevention, protection and prosecution,” he said.
Stating that the cases of human rights violation were being minimized, he stressed the need of adopting a policy of ending impunity and zero tolerance towards human rights violations.
