Industry Committee Chairman Ansari meets Saudi envoy

KATHMANDU: Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Nepal, Fahad Mohammad A. Miyes, and Chairperson of the Industry, Commerce and Consumers’ Welfare Committee under the House of Representatives, Rahbar Ansari held a meeting today.

During the meeting, the meeting reviewed the historic and nearly five decades long diplomatic relations between Nepal and Saudi Arabia and discussed ways to further strengthen the bilateral relations in the coming days. The two sides held extensive discussions on how to make the diplomatic relations with industry, commerce and labour sector more effective keeping the mutual interests between the two countries at the centre. In the meeting, the issues of Nepali workers working in Saudi Arabia, fraud by manpower companies and middlemen, lack of skills and lack of work as per the agreement were discussed.

On the occasion, the ambassador informed about the ‘SVP’ program brought by the Saudi government for the skill testing and management of workers.

Ansari also expressed the commitment of the parliamentary committee to make necessary policy reforms for security, employment, skill development and facilitation of Nepali workers going to Saudi Arabia. The meeting also discussed the possibilities of investment from Saudi Arabia in Nepal.

The Saudi government and investors are interested in investing in Nepal’s tourism sector as Nepal has a huge potential, he said.

President Ansari urged the Saudi government through the ambassador to make the Saudi government and investors believe about the necessary policy reforms and facilitation to attract Saudi investment. Matters of trade,

tourism, environment, air connectivity and cultural relations were also discussed on the occasion. Discussions were also held on the issues related to management of Haj pilgrims going to Mecca and Madinah from Nepal every year, resolving their problems and making the pilgrimage more systematic.

The meeting also stressed on the need to further expand cooperation and dialogue between the parliamentary committees of Nepal and Saudi Arabia in the coming days.
