. Nepal and India have decided to export electricity from 1,100 MW to India and import capacity from 1,000 MW to 1,400 MW by expanding the inter-country transmission infrastructure.
According to the Ministry
of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, the 13th meeting of Nepal-India Energy Secretary-level Joint Directive Committee (JSC) held in Pokhara decided to expand the capacity of electricity to be supplied through Dhalkebar-Muzaffarpur and Dhalkebar-Sitamadhi 400 kV transmission line.
The meeting also approved the detailed project report (DPR) of the Chameliya (Nepal)-Jauljibi (India) 220 KV double circuit transmission line and set a target to complete it by December 2028. Similarly, Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) and Power Grid Corporation of India have already signed the shareholder agreement and joint venture (JV) for the construction of Inaruwa-New Purnia and Dodhodhara (New Lamki)-Bareilly 400 KV interstate transmission line. The government has also approved the DPR of Motihari-Nijgadh 400 KV double circuit transmission line as per the plan of exporting additional electricity by 2034/35 with the aim of long-term electricity trade.
The meeting also approved the proposal of expanding the capacity of the Muzaffarpur-Dhalkebar 400 kV transmission line using HTLS conductor.
The ministry also decided to conduct a technical study on the feasibility of the Lucknow-Kohalpur÷Lamahi 400 KV inter-country transmission line.
The meeting also agreed to complete construction of Butwal-Gorakhpur 400 kV transmission line by August 2026 and new Butwal substation will be completed by December 2027.
It will be used to import up to 130 MW of electricity and export up to
200 MW. According to the Energy Ministry, the secretary-level meeting held a day ago and discussed the recommendations of the joint joint task force held a day ago and decided to make the expansion of inter-country transmission line, hydropower projects with Indian investment and import and export of electricity to Nepal and India easier.
