Government will provide necessary support for the promotion of film industry: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Dr. Timilsin a A Chinese delegation led by Li Hongshu, the founding chairman of the Everest International Film Festival, paid a visit to Nepal on Monday. He paid a courtesy call on Bikram Timilsina. On the occasion, the two leaders discussed on expanding cooperation between Nepal and China in the field of film, culture and tourism promotion.
On the occasion, Minister for Communications and Information Technology Dr Timilsina expressed his confidence that the International Film Festival would further strengthen the cultural ties between Nepal and China.
Stating that the film festival was playing an important role in the promotion of tourism along with the expansion of relations at the people’s level, he stressed the need of continuing cooperation in the days to come on the basis of mutual interest and common benefit.
Stating that China is one of the countries that receive the highest number of tourists to Nepal, Minister Timilsina opined that film could be an effective medium to promote Nepal’s natural heritage, culture and tourism destinations in the international arena.
He also expressed commitment that the government would provide necessary support to expand the reach of Nepali film industry to the world market and expand its international reach.

Hongshu, the leader of the Chinese delegation and the founding chairman of Everest International Film Festival, said that Nepal is a close friend of China and it is an excellent destination for natural beauty, cultural diversity and film shooting. He expressed the view that Nepal’s favourable environment was appropriate for film production, cultural exchange, tourism promotion and to organize international events to strengthen people’s relations.
The Everest International Film Festival (EIFF) is a bilateral initiative of Nepal and China to strengthen film and cultural ties.
Speaking at the event, Dinesh Raj Dahal, chairperson of the Film Development Board, said that the festival will help connect Nepali films to the Chinese market.
According to him, the festival was organized in Changsha and Hengyang cities of China’s Hunan Province from April 14-19, 2026 on the occasion of the 71st anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and China.
Out of 23 films submitted from Nepal for the festival, 11 films were selected for the festival. After that, six Nepali films were approved for release through the Chinese censorship process, including ‘Anjila’, ‘Chhakka Panja 5’, ‘Tel Visa’, ‘Mahajatra’, ‘Kabaddi 4’ and ‘Hostel 3’. The films were screened in cinemas in Changsha and Hengyang after the approval of the relevant Chinese authorities with Chinese subtitles. According to Dahal, the prize distribution program of the award-winning films is going to be held on Tuesday (July 5, 2083) at Film Development Board, Kathmandu.
