Ministry of Health and Population signs MoU with Nepal Drugs Limited to produce 36 types of essential medicines within two years

Currently, Nepal Drugs Limited is producing 11 types of essential medicines.

According to the Ministry, medicines for chronic diseases like high blood pressure and diabetes would be produced within the country under the new plan. For this, necessary research and development (R&D), quality test, production license and technical preparations will be expedited.

Necessary budget will be arranged for the implementation of the program as per the agreement.

Likewise, the ministry has stated that priority would be given to domestic production in the supply of essential medicines to the government health institutions.

With this, the Ministry of Health and Food Hygiene and Nepal Drugs Limited will make arrangements for the purchase of medicines required for the government health institutions through an institutional and regular system.

It is believed that this will make the government procurement process more effective and will also help in ensuring the utilization of medicines produced by Nepal Drugs Limited and also in market expansion.

According to the Ministry, the quality of all the medicines produced by Nepal Drugs Limited will be ensured in accordance with national and international standards. The Ministry has expressed confidence that this initiative would further strengthen the long-term goal of promoting the domestic pharmaceutical industry, increasing self-reliance on medicines, reducing dependence on imports and ensuring regular availability of quality and affordable essential medicines to the citizens.
