BP Koirala’s 44th memorial day being observed

. KATHMANDU: The 44th memorial day of Nepali Congress founding leader and the first people-elected Prime Minister of Nepal, Bishweshwar Prasad Koirala, is being observed across the country today.

BP Koirala is remembered as the pioneer of democratic socialism and a leading democratic movement in Nepalese politics, who passed away on July 21, 2039 at the age of 68.

In the first general election in 2015 BS, BP became the first democratically elected Prime Minister of Nepal after the Nepali Congress won a two-thirds majority. During his tenure, he had initiated the historic land reform program called Birta abolition and ‘land tiller’.

B. P. was a proponent of democracy, nationalism, civil liberties and social justice, giving a new direction to Nepal’s democratic movement.

Along with politics, he is also considered to have made an important contribution in the field of literature.

On the occasion of BP’s Memorial Day, the Nepali Congress, its sister organisations and well-wishers have organised seminars, condolence meetings, floral tributes and remembrance programmes throughout the country. KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) is organizing a ‘Green Run’ in the Kathmandu Valley this year to raise awareness about climate change.

NC President Gagan Kumar Thapa and other leaders and cadres were present on the occasion. The Central Policy, Research and Training Academy of the Nepali Congress organized the ‘Green Run’ today.
