Agreement to advance the handicraft sector in collaboration with the government and the federation
Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The representatives of Federation of Handicraft Entrepreneurs of Nepal (FHAN) have expressed their readiness to collaborate with the government for the development, expansion and protection of handicraft business in Nepal.
Prime Minister Balendra Shah had called them to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers for the discussion today.
During the discussions, the representatives of the Federation said that they felt that the incumbent government has given priority to the handicraft business and they were ready to cooperate with the government in any way.
On the occasion, Prime Minister Shah said that the government was committed to the policy related to handicraft business, art conservation, employment generation and handicraft generation.
Similarly, Prime Minister Shah has been positive to the demand of the office-bearers to form a Handicraft Development Board on the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
The Federation has demanded that the Handicraft Day should be celebrated at the national level as it has been celebrating Handicraft Day on December 28 in its own way. On the occasion, Prime Minister Shah directed his team to coordinate with the Ministry of Home Affairs for the celebration of the day.
Similarly, the Prime Minister assured that the export of handicraft goods was being done on self-declaration so far and instead of making invoice valuation mandatory, work would be done as per the suggestions of the office-bearers.
The Prime Minister also assured to give continuity to the export of handicraft goods as five percent of the amount that was to be received for the export of handicrafts has been stopped for the past three years.
Although the building of SAARC Handicraft Development Center has been constructed at the Department of Industry for the production and development of handicraft goods, there is another office (Company Registrar) there, so the office bearers demanded that it should be returned to them.
Prime Minister Shah assured that he would work accordingly.
Similarly, Prime Minister Shah has shown special interest in establishing handicraft village in Kathmandu Valley and opening handicraft skill training center in all seven provinces.
In addition, Prime Minister Shah said that the two sides were positive about the agreement to build artistic structures in collaboration with contractors.
The office-bearers have put forth various demands, including the preservation of traditional skills and art and to provide identity cards to the handicraft workers.
The meeting was attended by FNCCI President Rabindra Shakya, Senior Vice President Rajman Bajracharya, Vice President Kiran Kumar Sthapit, Advisor Bikash Ratna Dhakwa and Top Exporter Maheshwor Shrestha.
