Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies, Gauri Kumari Yadav, inspected Nepal Drugs Limited (NDL) and took stock of the current status of the Drugs Limited, its production capacity and the problems surfaced.
Minister Yadav along with Secretary Narayan Prasad Sharma Duwadi and a team of high officials of the ministry also visited the office of the Drugs Limited at Babarmahal. During the inspection, General Manager of the company Kailash Paneru inspected the various production units where essential medicines are being produced on a daily basis.
Currently the Company has been producing 25 types of essential medicines, he said, complaining of lack of vehicles required to supply medicines across the country.
General Manager Paneru said that there is a problem in the distribution of new vehicles as the vehicles used for the transportation of medicines during the Jenji agitation were burnt down.
After hearing the complaint, Minister Yadav directed the Ministry Secretary Duwadi to immediately arrange for necessary vehicles.
On the occasion, General Manager Paneru also presented the progress report of the Drugs Limited which has been in loss for many years to make a profit of around two crore rupees in this fiscal year. Expressing happiness over the profit of the company, Minister Yadav stressed on the need for the government industries and corporations to become self-reliant.
She said, “Every industry and corporation should be able to manage the expenses from employee management to office operation on its own.” The situation of asking for budget by going to the door of the ministry should end. It’s our own property. If the corporation becomes profitable, the country’s economy will also be strengthened. If necessary, let us sell the medicines produced at a low profit, but create an environment in which the entire expenses of the organization can be met from our own income. Stating that the government aims to change the narrative of despair in the country within the next five years, Minister Yadav urged the civil servants to work honestly ।
